The happenings of the last few days have me mulling over the popular quote from Robert Burns.
“The best laid schemes of Mice and Men oft go awry”
So true, right? I had planned to take the last few days that the kids are in school to finish up my Christmas shopping, wrapping and hiding. Needless to say my plans have gone completely sideways with my 5 year old daughter home from school with “likely something viral”. (Yes, that is the official diagnosis.)
Time for plan B. Plan B involves the internet and having my husband babysit, as I go shopping. The wrapping and hiding part will have to be done at night.
Unfortunately, this quote is also very true for any workshop or seminar that you plan. Frankly, no matter how well you plan your events, something always goes wrong. There are always unexpected curves thrown at you.
This is where an experienced event planner earns her keep. When you have a good planner by your side, it is something you do not have to worry about. A good event planner is like a clutch hitter in baseball. She is ready to hit those curve balls out of the park.
Plan B gets executed and the seminar continues seamlessly, without the audience noticing a thing and even more important, the seminar leader not having to expend any energy on.
Trust me, when you lead your own seminar, you need to be concentrating on your audience, your content and the energy in the room, not the details, expected or otherwise.
As I get to work on my plan B, here’s wishing you unexpected joys…
