It seems that everyone is having an event in the next couple of months. Of course that is not surprising, since October is traditionally one of the most popular months to host a workshop or seminar. The kids are back in school, and we are squarely between summer vacation and the holiday season.
Although August and September are great months to promote these events, the real work for marketing these events started this spring and in some cases, even earlier. In fact, I saw the announcements for some of the seminars as early as April.
They have been using a variety of methods to market their seminars and have promoted and cross promoted their events throughout the last 6 months. The invitations I am receiving now are more of a final push and reminders to make the commitment to come to the event.
And that is what it takes to fill an event that requires people to make an investment in time and money. When you host an event that requires your attendees to make travel arrangements, reserve hotels, and leave their family and home for a weekend, you have to start way in advance.
A three month promotional window just doesn’t cut it. You need time to make it abundantly clear WHY your audience should join you for your event. What is in it for them that is so compelling that they have to not only buy a ticket, but make a serious effort to travel to your event?
The invitations and reminders I am getting are all for events that will be very successful. These seminar leaders will have full event room because they all know the 5 keys to filling their workshops and seminars.
