Brit Hume is a journalist and no doubt he is talking about journalists here. However, this applies to the business world as well.  Your prospects and clients are hungry for information.  They have a problem and they need help in getting their problem solved.

You, as a service professional or a coach, have built up a body of knowledge.  You probably have advanced degrees and have a lot of expertise in your field.  You have the information that that your clients need.  You have that solution to your prospect’s and clients problems. Use workshops and events as a way to deliver your solution and to increase your credibility.

A workshop ties in with the credibility and the hunger for information in two ways.  First,  a workshop is a great way to establish and increase your credibility.  The advantage of hosting a live event is that is makes you the superstar. Whether you are a self employed professional addressing a room full of prospects at a workshop or seminar or you are a coach offering intensive training in his field at a multi-day boot camp, you are the center of attention and the obvious expert in the room.  This generates instant credibility.

Second, you want to use your clients hunger as a starting point for your workshop’s content and marketing. When you market your workshop, you want to connect to your audience’s hunger for the information that you can give them.   You need to tap into your audience’s pain and really understand what keeps your ideal client up in the middle of the night.  Use the pain to position your workshop as the pain killer.  When you offer your workshop as the answer your prospects are searching for, they will raise their hand and flock to your event.

Solve your clients’ problems and they will love you.  Solve your clients’ problems profitably and you will have a thriving business.
