The word winning has great connotations for me. As an Olympic springboard diver, I have done my share of winning.
Let me tell you, there is nothing better than that winning feeling. Even if I didn’t win first place, many times I felt like winner, just because I competed my best. I don’t subscribe to the notion that in order for there to be a winner, there has to be a loser.
That is what I want to convey with Winning Workshops. In Winning Workshops there are no losers. Winning Workshops are all about creating events that are WIN/WIN/WIN for everyone. A win for the audience, a win for the vendors and venue and a win for you. In this article, we’ll tackle what makes a Winning Workshop for your audience. Next week, we’ll discuss what makes a Winning Workshop for you.
Here are 12 criteria that make a winning workshop for your audience:
A Winning Workshop has great content that benefits the audience. No matter the subject, a winning workshop provides content that is so valuable that your clients are willing to pay you handsomely for the privilege of gaining your knowledge.
A Winning Workshop goes deep with the content. It doesn’t just skim the surface, but offers real, solid information.
A Winning Workshop provides content that is new, now and next. Your audience wants to know new things that work now and what to look out for next.
A Winning Workshop educates the audience. When you share your knowledge freely, your clients learn concepts, tools and strategies they can use in their lives and businesses.
A Winning Workshop transforms your audience. The transformation is the result your audience achieves as a result of your information, whether it is learning to market their business authentically, creating life/work balance or creating better relationships. The result is the transformation.
A Winning Workshop allows people to grow. We cannot move forward in our lives and businesses unless we grow as people. Your content should urge us to stretch.
A Winning Workshop provides food for thought. Make people think with your content. Make them consider what is possible for them through your methods, strategies and tools.
A Winning Workshop inspires your audience through success stories and case studies that illustrate your points. It shows them that they too can be that success story.
A Winning Workshop provides action steps your audience can implement right now. How many times do people come home from an event with great ideas but go right back to the same old rut on Monday morning? Send them home with 3 things to implement right away.
A Winning Workshop entertains. Gail Godwin said “Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths pure theatre.” Entertain them and they will remember.
A Winning Workshop creates connections. Facilitate networking moments and elements. Your audience comes to your workshop not only to learn, but to belong to a community of like minded people.
A Winning Workshop encourages people to act. Whether it is to act on the information you have given to them by implementing the strategies on their own or to join your programs and services, give them the confidence to do something.
Although the list is far from complete, when you keep these 12 things in mind when you create your event, you will have a winning workshop that your audience will love. What other elements make your workshop a winning workshop? Share your ideas and comments below. I’d love to hear from you.
