Hosting live events is a great way to grow your business. They boost your visibility and create raving fans and life-long clients.  Your events are also the best platform from which to fill your high end programs and generate a big payday.

However, attending events is also a great way to grow your business.  Personally, I just bought tickets to a couple of events I will be attending in the next few months. The purpose of investing my time and money into these events is to grow my business big time next year.  Here are 3 of the top 5 ways to turn attending events into a business growth strategy.  In the next blog post, I will discuss the other two.

attending events fills knowledge gaps in your businessFill the Gaps

One reason to attend events is to fill any knowledge gaps you have.  Identify what it is that you need to know or learn to grow your business.  Then look for the person who has mastered that aspect of the business and teaches it.  Take advantage of a free webinar to see if you like their teaching style.  If so, go ahead and invest in their event.

What are the gaps in your business?

Work ON Not IN Your Business

This is a biggie with many entrepreneurs.  We are so busy doing the work that is paying the bills that we don’t get to take time out to actually work on our business.  Serving your clients of course is super important.  However, without a strategic plan and the time to actually look at it and make adjustments, you can’t grow your business.

The event I am attending this week is going to help me plan my 2013 marketing in detail.  I know it is something I need to do now and by going to the event I am making time to actually implement it.  This is my time to work on my business.

When are you working on your business?

Motivation

As a solopreneur working from home, I have a lot of distractions.  And no matter how much I love what I do, sometimes I need a good dose of motivation.   You could also call it a swift kick in the butt!  There is nothing like being at an event to get charged up and motivated to roll up your sleeves and make things happen.

What gets you motivated?

These are the first 3 of the top 5 ways attending events grows your business.  Stay tuned for the next blog post in which you fill find out the other two.  And frankly, I think those may very well be the most important.

Meanwhile, here is a question for you to mull over…

  1. Talk about “motivation”! This post is certainly very motivating, Daphne!

“The event I am attending this week is going to help me plan my 2013 marketing in detail.” Seems there’s a lot of talk about ‘marketing’ in the air these days. I’m just wrapping up a blog series about marketing your talent online. 🙂

I’m most guilty of perpetually working “in” my business and not “on” it. There … I confessed. I can most assuredly understand and appreciate the BIG value in attending live events, Daphne. And you’ve offered up three excellent reasons for getting your butt in the seat of an event … especially one that will genuinely provide you with nuggets to grow your biz.

I just read a post from Jackie Purnell this week where she shared photos and details of a Problogger event she attended in Australia, hosted by Darren Rowse. I KNOW she’s super happy she attended!

    Thanks for a wonderful post!

Great blog series you are putting together there on marketing, Melanie! I spent the weekend learning, getting a necessary swift kick in the butt and creating my marketing calendar. I can’t tell you how freeing it is to have all my projects for 2013 on paper (even if I am not sure what they’ll look like yet). I now know what I’ll be doing an what my next step will be from day to day. Pretty exciting! Expect great things from me next year!
