The Challenge Of Reaching Your 2014 Goals

Isn’t the New Year great?  It is a blank slate.  You can make of it whatever you want.  And that is of course why so many people set their goals at this time of year.

Success Thermometer Measuring Progress to Successful GoalUnfortunately, according to the University of Scranton, only 8% of people actually achieve their New Year’s resolutions.  There are numerous surveys that suggest that most New Year’s resolutions fall by the wayside somewhere between January 7th and 10th.  Ouch!

Of course, I know that your goals will stand up past the first 10 days of the year.  You didn’t set just any vague goal, but you put some thought and determination behind it.  Even so, without support it can be difficult to achieve your goals, be it personal or business.

One great way to work towards your objectives is to do it together with others; support each other and hold each other accountable.  Challenges are the perfect vehicle for this.

Here are three challenges that will support you towards your goals:

Weight Loss Challenge

The most popular resolution is to lose weight.  Usually the same 20lbs you have lost before. Sound familiar?

Whether you only want to lose the few pounds you have gained over the holidays (and seriously, who doesn’t gain weight over the holidays?), or if this is the year that you are finally getting back to healthy, the Weight Loss Challenge will help you get there.

What I love about this challenge is that it is not about dropping a lot of pounds quickly.  It is about losing the fat, not just water weight or muscle.

Mary Weaver, who created the challenge, provides some great tools, so you can calculate and track your body composition.  More muscle, less fat is good.  You can also calculate how many calories to eat to get to your goal.  Hint: it is not as few as you think.  A big mistake dieters make is not eating enough.  Refreshing perspective for a fat loss challenge!

Ultimate Blog Challenge

If one of your goals is to pay more attention to your blog and get more traffic, the Ultimate Blog Challenge is for you.  The challenge here is to post in your blog every day of January.  Yes, that is one blog posts per day and you are already 1 day behind.

Don’t worry though; Michelle Shaeffer and Michele Scism also give you 31 ideas for posting and some of these you can complete in only 10 minutes.  Nobody is asking you to write the great American opus every day.  And so what if you don’t post every day?  Even if you only create 20 new posts, it is surely more than you are doing now.

This challenge also comes with built in support in the form of a private Facebook group.  Post your blog post in the group and have at least 2 people comment on your blog.  You also have new people discover your blog who can share it with their friends on social media.     I am joining the weight loss challenge and the workshop challenge. Weight loss, who doesn’t want to get of the weight we gained over the holidays and the past year at that?! Here’s to a healthier me in 2014. Now, for the workshop challenge, I want to extend my reach and I believe that organizing more workshops will be able to help me do this.
