As we are wrapping up another year, it is vital for our businesses to plan our success for the following year. Indeed, if you are planning on leading your own workshop in 2011, the time to plan is now. You have to start early, so that you have plenty of time to start marketing. You need that time to get the butts in the seats. But before you can go out promoting your event, there are a few things you need to do first.
This series of blog posts is designed to help you break down the steps you need to take to set your workshop up for success and profitability. In the first blog post we picked a date for your seminar and in the second we created a time line and checklist. Now we are ready for step 3:
Envision Your Event
When you envision your event, you should first think of your audience. Who are they and what are they struggling with? This is the most important part of your workshop. Your event is all about your audience.
Your workshop topic is geared toward solving your audience’s problems. Although it may be tempting to teach what we want to teach and what we think our audience should know, it is much more effective to actually find out what your audience wants to know and build your workshop around that.
Your venue is chosen with your audience’s comfort in mind. You don’t put an audience of six and seven figure earners in a bare bones recreation center and you don’t want to place a workshop on creating a family budget in the Ritz Carlton. Your venue has to be congruent with your audience and your topic. If they don’t match up, you will have a disconnect and you will have trouble filling your workshop room.
Close your eyes and imagine what your event looks like, the audience’s excitement and the feel of your event. Once you have that vision, you can start working to make it a reality.
