From time to time I do Event Strategy Breakthrough Sessions and I love helping entrepreneurs through their workshop and seminar challenges. The funny thing is that most people who apply for a break through session want to know how to promote their event.
Not surprising, because empty rooms are the biggest source of stress for workshop hosts. But as I talk to these entrepreneurs, I find that their workshop difficulties don’t lie in the promotional department at all, but in something completely different.
Their event format and event objective don’t jive…
Just because you see someone host a 1 or 2 day event, does not make it the right event for you. Before you even decide on what type of event to host, you want to be very clear on your event objective.
Before you say, “I want to get clients, make money and change the world”, hold your horses. Everyone wants more clients. Making money is a pretty universal goal and if you are a heart centered entrepreneur (like most of my clients are), making a difference is also a requirement.
As far as I am concerned for all workshops these three goals are a given.
But it is not enough…
You have to be a bit more particular about what kind of clients you want more of. For simplicity’s sake, let’s look at the following three objectives:
Build Your Audience
If you are starting out, your objective may be to build your audience and turn those people into entry level or even higher end clients. Generating leads would be your primary objective in this case. There is an event for that.
Convert Leads Into Clients
Sometimes the leads we have been collecting are reluctant to turn into clients. That can have a number of reasons, but a workshop can overcome many of them. You could have a credibility gap, or perhaps your leads don’t have a clear picture of what you offer. You need an event that showcases your expertise, clearly showcases your ability to solve their problem and a logical next step for your audience to take. There is an event for that.
Upgrade Your Clients
One of the ways to grow your business is to get your current clients to spend more money with you. By adding high ticket items to your repertoire or enrolling more clients into your upper level packages, you will make a lot more money without adding a significant amount of extra work to your workweek. And yes, there is definitely an event for that.
Once you have set your event objective, it is time to choose your event format. Not every event is created equal and not every event is suitable for your particular objective.
If you are wondering what the best event format is for your business, I invite you to join me for the Create Your Own Workshop Challenge.
In just 7 days and 7 easy steps, you will create your own client attracting, money making, successful workshop.
