In last week’s post I talked about the Black Friday mistake. That is when event hosts hold a fire sale of their event tickets with deep discounts a few weeks before their event.
It is tempting to do that when you are right before your event and you haven’t sold enough tickets. However it devalues your event and it usually means one of two things:
1. You didn’t start marketing early enough
The successful event hosts are already filling their 2014 events. Just in the last couple of weeks, I have seen offers to get live event tickets to three May events and one September event. These people allow themselves plenty of time to fill their events and end up with huge audiences. Each one of the May events is expecting hundreds of people.
2. You didn’t have a marketing plan
They are getting immediate revenue for their program, and attendees for their event next year. And not just any attendees, they are getting buyers that have already invested in their programs.
Suzanne Evans just held her Hell Yeah Stars event this last weekend. Before she sent everyone home there was an offer to buy a ticket to her May Be The Change event at a discount. This takes preplanning and these ladies have mastered filling their events.
If you have an event on the books, and haven’t created a detailed marketing plan yet, NOW is the time to do it. It is not too late to fill a 3 day event in May, but you have to get started now.
