In my blog post series, The Top 5 Items To Sell at the Back of the Room of your events, I placed continuity programs at number 4. Also known as membership programs, you offer a membership area on your website, where you post monthly content.
The benefits are obvious. A recurring monthly revenue stream allows you to budget and plan better, since you will know approximately how much money you will be consistently making from your membership site. If you are looking for immediate cash flow, you could even offer a small discount for people who pay for the program or year upfront.
However, membership programs can be so much more than something to sell in the back of the room.
Here are 3 ways membership programs can expand and enhance your workshops and seminars:
#1 – The Next Step
The success of your seminar often depends on the offer you make. Some seminar leaders are still hesitant to sell anything, but if you don’t offer the next step in learning for your attendees, you are doing them a disservice. If they loved what you taught, many of your attendees will be ready for implementation help or ways to specifically use your strategies to move them forward in their businesses or lives.
While some of your audience may be the do-it-yourself types, many of them realize that getting help will accelerate the process. This is where your membership program comes in. If you create a membership program as your logical next step or as a part of your package, you can offer support and additional content.
#2 – Turn Your Seminar Into A Membership Program
After a 3 day seminar you have a wealth of content, especially if you have it recorded on video or audio. When you turn it into a membership program, you have ready-made content. You can market it to people who couldn’t attend your event live and still want to learn from you.
In addition, you can also sell it to your attendees. Unfortunately, we only remember a fraction of the materials we learn at an event and a membership program is an ideal way to revisit the seminar and retain what we’ve learned.
#3 – Leverage your community
Create a membership program where your attendees can interact with each other, you and the speakers of your event. Your attendees form a bond with each other at your event and want to stay in touch.
With social media it’s becoming easier, but if you can facilitate it through a membership community where they can not only learn more from you, but also from each other, you have a winning formula.
In addition to posting your own content, you can also post content from your speakers, and your attendees if it’s relevant to your audience. In addition to the recurring monthly revenue stream, you can also profit from affiliate sales from your featured experts.
