strategic planningWith 2014 looming only a few weeks away, you may be coasting to the holidays, wrapping up your year and planning your parties.  Maybe, but I don’t think so.

You are a go getter, so you are more likely to be working your butt off these last few weeks, hustling to make this year your best ever.

Between working toward your goals, holiday parties, decorating, shopping for gifts and making travel plans for the holidays, it is hard to take time out to focus on working ON your business rather than IN your business.

Yet that strategic planning is so important to also make NEXT year your best year ever.  This year is all well and good, you need to hurry up to meet and exceed your goals. But without goals for next year, you are not going to grow.  What you do now sets the stage for a successful and profitable 2014.

I know it is difficult to take time out and work on your business, but make sure to take one day, or at least a few hours to do the following:

Set Strategic Goals

How much money do you want to make next year?  How much of growth does that represent?  How does that translate into clients?  How many high end clients would that take?  How many products sold?  Remember that it is much easier to get $100,000 with a few $5,000 and $10,000 clients than by selling $200-$500 packages at a time.

Create A Marketing Plan

Once you know what your income goals is and you know how many clients you are planning on adding to reach that goal, it is time to plan how you are going to get those clients.  Do you need to create a high end program? How will you sell them into it? Webinars? Strategy Sessions?  Speaking engagements?  Are you going to host an event to enroll these high end clients into your program?

(Hot tip: this is the best way to get an influx of clients all at once.)  Plug these in on a calendar, so you know what you are launching and promoting when.

Break It Down Into Action Steps

With your marketing plan in place you can break it down into actions steps. What actions do you need to take to for each piece on your marketing plan?  Will you need an email campaign?  JV partners?  Will you do social media?  What other promotional pieces do you need to have in place?  Make sure to look at your dates and back up the necessary days, weeks and months for each action step.  For instance, if you are planning an event in the spring, filling the seats starts NOW!  Yes, NOW.  Not next year, NOW!

With strategic goals, a marketing plan and action steps in place, you can confidently charge into the New Year.  Make sure to take a few hours or day to work on this.  If you get distracted in your own office, go remote.  Take your computer to the nearest coffee shop, co-working location, or hotel lobby. You could even book a hotel room for the day. Just make the commitment and follow through.
