Are You Making This Rookie Mistake With Your Workshops?

information overloadAs a workshop host you have a lot of expertise you want to impart.  Your audience wants to learn and you are happy to teach them as much as you can.

You teach and teach and teach, completely overdelivering at your workshop.

Your audience gobbles it up and your testimonials sound like:

“Wow, you completely overdelivered!”

“That was like drinking from a fire hose!”

Awesome, right?

Not really, because you notice a few things

    • Your audience is not signing up for your offer like you expect.
    • Your attendees are not taking action on what you have taught
  • Since they are not taking action, they are also not getting the results you want from your workshop

How is that possible, since you were on a roll and you taught so much at your workshop?

Information Overload

This is the rookie mistake.  You taught too much.

Your audience is overwhelmed.  They are on information overload.   Our brain isn’t wired to process that much information.

So instead your audience shuts down.  They don’t buy your offer, because they don’t feel like they are ready to.  Maybe you have taught so much that they think they don’t need that next step.

And because you are on such a roll with your workshop, teaching your heart out, you don’t have enough time to completely explain your offer and the benefits your audience will get.  You rush through it because you are almost out of time. Ultimately, your sales suffer.

When your attendees come home after your workshop, they have a hard time figuring out what to do first.  With the information overload, they can’t see the forest for the trees.  They are so overwhelmed by all the things they could implement from your workshop that they do the logical thing; nothing.

They place their binder and notes on the shelf and that is where it stays.  All your brilliance and it didn’t help them take action. It didn’t get the results for them that they and you were hoping for.

The Solution

Focus on one sliver of the information pie during your workshop.  Rather than spouting all your knowledge, go narrow and deep.  Make sure that the information you provide leads into your next step offer and make it easy for your audience to say yes.

Your audience will have better results, you will get more success stories and better testimonials.  And last but not least, your event will be lot more profitable.
